“It’s feeling like you’re isolated. Even the people that are supposed to be close to you even let you down, feeling like you’re alone, feeling like you’re the only person you can depend on, that’s what it meant to me. I don’t try to look at things like that; I try to see what people connect with. A song could mean something completely different to me than it does to some kid. I think that’s what’s cool about our band is that we write these songs that are completely open-ended so they can form them in their lives. Kids come to our shows and tell me these crazy stories about what our songs mean and they ask if that’s what the song is about and I tell him absolutely because that is what it’s about. It’s crazy to hear these stories that people tell me, really creative stuff. It’s just incredible that our songs can connect with people and help them get through things in their lives, that’s more important than anything that matters to me.”
